The Thapster smartphone music game app was a smash hit, downloaded 2.5 million times in its first five months in the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. Created by Bangkok-based company Sinoze, Thapster was Thailand’s first mobile music game app with the rights to tracks from major record companies.
Thapster is a free app, which means Sinoze relies on in-app advertising to drive revenue. At first, ad income for Thapster was unpredictable, and managing inventory was a time-consuming manual process for the development team. Eventually, they decided it would be best to try Google AdMob to help build an effective monetization strategy and reduce time spent on inventory management.
Turning to AdMob for built-in mediation
Intara Tanlamai, co-founder of Sinoze, realized AdMob was the answer to his team’s monetization and inventory struggles.
Intara and his team also found that these ads weren’t getting in the way of their primary goal: providing a great user experience.
“The ads in AdMob are also varied, and the formats are high quality,” he continues. “So the ads that our players see are perfectly in keeping with the premium feel of the app.”
Predictable ad revenue — and more of it
Within a month, Sinoze was seeing clear benefits. Ads served from the AdMob network increased revenue by nearly 70%. Taking into account ads from other networks served via the mediation feature, their total revenue rose 175%.

As revenue continues to increase, Intara and his team at Sinoze can now devote their energies to adding new features to Thapster and working on new projects. “With AdMob, our revenue is both larger and more predictable, and at the same time, ad management is easier and less time-consuming,” he says. “I couldn’t be happier.”
